| CHRIS
MONEYMAKER
2003
World Champion of Poker
(World Series of Poker)
Chris
Moneymaker shot to the top of poker in 2003 by capturing
the WSOP Championship title. At 28-year-old, Chris
was an accountant in Tennessee when he came from obscurity
by parlaying $40 in an Internet qualifying tournament
to win his seat in the 2003 World Championship event,
where he ultimately won and took home $2,500,000 in the No Limit Texas Hold'em main event.
Moneymaker’s
name alone helped to spur the explosive growth in online
poker play, helped by the great ESPN coverage and airing
of his championship run. We witnessed some of the best
and biggest ever bluffs on television in last seasons
episodes. Chris was aggressive and determined to win,
inspiring multitudes of would-be poker players across
the country to get out and play!
