PHIL
HELLMUTH
Phil Hellmuth, Jr. is one of the most successful tournament poker
players of all time.
His accomplishments in the World Series of Poker
alone are phenomenal. Phil has a record nine gold bracelets (tying
with Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan), he is second all
time top money winner with $3.6 Million behind Greg
“Fossilman” Raymer, and is second in number of all time money cashes with
45 (behind Berry Johnston’s 46).
Phil is also the youngest player to ever win
the World Series. He was only 24 years old when he beat out the
two-time World Champion, Johnny Chan, who was after
his three-peat following his amazing back-to-back World
Championships.
Phil’s poker career started in 1985 in Madison, Wisconsin,
where he grew up. He
learned and mastered the art of poker in Madison, before
moving to Palo Alto, California, where Phil currently
lives with his wife and two boys.
Phil travels the tournament circuit and plays in the larger buy-in
events. Phil is
successful because he believes he can win every tournament
he enters, and can win every hand he plays.
When it doesn’t happen the way he envisions it,
he doesn’t always take it gracefully. Phil has worked hard on improving his demeanor
at the poker table.
Phil understands that he must improve this part
of his game, as it is a key component in the pursuit
of his #1 career goal, to become the 'Best poker player
of all time.'
Phil is a spokesman for Ultimate Bet, an online poker
site, and recently released a book called "Play
Poker Like the Pros".
You can expect to see more of Phil in the next
couple years as poker and poker players are exposed
to the public in new ways.
I met Phil in 1984 when we played together on the UW-Madison Ultimate
Frisbee Club. We
became friends about 1986, when I started playing poker
regularly in home games with Phil.
We started our families around the same time,
and bought our first houses in the same Madison neighborhood. Phil is a very intelligent person, and is a
ton of fun to hang out with.
Meet Phil in person by booking him for a Home Poker Pros Poker
Night, Done RightTM. He can be booked for motivational speeches,
advanced poker lessons, book signings or just to kick
off and play in your poker event.
